Carbon fiber straps are often marketed as a quick and cost-effective solution for stabilizing bowing or cracked foundation walls. While they do have a place in certain foundation repair applications, at 1 Dry Basement, we take a more cautious and informed approach.

We currently do not offer carbon fiber strap installation, and here's why:

These products are frequently used as a reinforcement method—bonded to foundation walls with epoxy to prevent further movement. While that may sound appealing, the truth is that carbon fiber straps often serve as a surface-level fix. In many cases, they don’t address the deeper causes of structural damage such as soil pressure, hydrostatic force, footing movement, or foundational settlement.    Our concern is that carbon fiber can act like a band-aid on a bullet hole—appearing to solve the issue without dealing with what’s happening behind or beneath the wall.  For walls that are bowing, leaning, or showing significant structural damage, we believe the best course of action is a full structural assessment.   Solutions like underpinning, wall anchoring, or even exterior excavation may be more appropriate—and provide the lasting results property owners deserve.  We also believe that more long-term data and independent research is needed to determine the true lifespan and performance of carbon fiber repairs under varying site conditions.     Real Repairs, Not Quick Patches  At 1 Dry Basement, we’re committed to permanent foundation solutions, not temporary fixes.
